Who doesn’t love a soft, flavorful pizza crust? This is my go to pizza crust recipe, it is versatile, easy to make and turns out great every time.
As a large family that hosts a lot of other family and friends, making homemade pizzas is a great way to feed everyone!
How large of a pizza should this pizza crust recipe make?
This recipe has been measured out to fill up a standard cookie sheet. But, you can easily divide it two, three or four times to make smaller pizzas (kid sized, personal pizzas are a blast).
What kind of flour do you need?
I always use an all purpose flour because that is always readily available in my panty. But you can easily substitute for bread flour. The all purpose flour will be fluffier and the bread flour will be slightly chewier. Both will be delicious!
What if you do not have honey on hand for your pizza dough?
You can very easily replace the honey with other sweeteners. Such as white sugar, brown sugar or even maple syrup.
What kind of oil do you need?
I use whatever oil I have on hand. That could be cooking spray, olive oil, rendered lard, tallow or butter.
The secret to soft, chewy pizza crust.
Mayonnaise. My husbands grandmother shared a generational secret with us. That if you want the best tasting, soft and chewy pizza, you need mayonnaise.
You spread a thin layer of mayonnaise (homemade or store bought) onto your pizza dough BEFORE you add on the rest of your toppings. You will not be disappointed!
What are our favorite toppings?
We love pizza but buying pizza specific ingredients can be expensive. I love to use what we already have at home!
- Ground meat (venison, moose, beef, pork) seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic.
- Breakfast sausage (maple, Italian, breakfast blend) uncased or sliced
- Italian Sausage
- Chicken (usually left over from roasting a whole chicken)
- Tomato sauce, pasta sauce or even salsa
- BBQ sauce
- shredded cheese (any kind) or dollops of a soft homemade cheese (such as ricotta- very easy to make in a pinch!)
- onions, peppers, garlic, mushrooms, pineapple, tomatoes, jalapeños, etc.
- my kids even love pickled zucchini or cucumbers on their pizzas
if we don’t have vegetables we want for toppings, then a side dish of chopped veggies, your homemade pickles or pressure canned veggies are great too.

- Add remaining pizza toppings.
- Baking in middle rack for 15 minutes or until the bottom of the crust is a golden or toasted brown.
- Let cool, slice and enjoy!
